Regular Activities and Special Projects:
KUTING holds regular General Assemblies (GA) every third (3rd) Saturday of the month. GA’s are mainly for critiquing works of fellow members. Conducting workshops is the primary activity of the group and it is a regular item in the agenda of the GA’s. GA’s are also for listening to lectures that help members hone their writing skills. These “craft lectures” are given by fellow members or other children’s literature-writing experts. Some GA’s are also devoted to discussing children’s literature-related issues other than writing such as publication, illustration, distribution, and pedagogical value of children’s literature. For such special lectures, guest speakers who are experts in their fields are invited to share their knowledge with KUTING members. The group regularly teams up with cause-oriented groups to produce literature for children that further various advocacies. The group also holds fund-raising activities to defray the cost of reproduction of manuscripts for the workshops and cost of conducting orientation seminars for interested applicants. KUTING recognizes honorary members literary greats in the children’s literature industry. In 2003, the group recognised honorary members Mailin Paterno- Locsin, Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio, Rene Villanueva and National Artist Virgilio Almario. |
